Exhibition “Your Unknown Neighbors – The Yenish People and the Sinti”

August 2, 2025 to August 20, 2025
ETH Zurich Main Building, Main Hall (Rämistrasse 101, 8092 Zurich)

“Your Unknown Neighbors, The Yenish People and the Sinti” is the title of the Radgenossenschaft’s traveling exhibition. “Your Unknown Neighbors: The Yenish People and the Sinti.”

The creators selected images from the Radgenossenschaft’s extensive photo archive, which were repainted on the computer, so to speak. These figures were printed larger-than-life onto these aluminum-surface panels and cut out. They thus present a panorama of the life of the Yenish and Sinti.

In chapters, the exhibition shows who these people are, what they do, what they talk about, where they travel, and where they are protected – within their own families. It explores the role of women, their culture, and their self-image as Yenish, Sinti, and Roma. The groups of figures capture the special charm of Yenish-Sinti life between tradition and modernity.

The texts are short, concise, and easy to read; the exhibition is intended to be accessible. The opening was at the “Feckerchilbi” 2016 in Bern. It then traveled to various cities and was shown at the universities of Lucerne and Basel. It will continue to be presented in as many places as possible: in schools, in front of churches, wherever people gather.
